Though they might seem bored or lethargic during the day, just wait until when the sun goes down to see these nocturnal birds become very active! They are the most common heron in the world. They are noted for their striking red eyes, stark black head plumage and beautiful long white head feathers. This is the bad boy of the heron family noted for raiding nests of other birds. They nest in groups with other herons and egrets mostly in salt or brackish water areas. This life size rendition etching uses 5 copper plates that are hand wiped with various inks. The black coloration on this piece is extremely rich and vibrant. Upon drying, each etching is then meticulously hand painted with watercolors. Because each is individually hand painted and printed, no two are ever exactly the same.
