This beauty of the Great Blue Heron during breeding season is indeed a spectacle to behold! Standing at nearly 5 feet tall; it is the largest heron commonly seen in North America. They are the most widespread herons in North America, located in every state including Hawaii. Because of the variety of its diet, it winters farther north than most herons even near water that is freezing! It is a solitary hunter found in marshy, shallow water areas like the landscape I have created here.
This etching was created with four separate copper plates imbuing it with a rich color quality that is a feast for the eyes! Finished with transparent watercolors, it excels like the bird.

Technical Art Information:
Image size: 13” x 18”
This etching is hand-made on 4 large copper plates, each plate containing different colors. In addition to the Arches rag paper used for the etching, the inks and paints employed to create the etching are of the highest quality. Each etching is hand-printed with overlapping colors, a highly skilled process. Two weeks after the ink dries, several hours of hand-coloring is required to finish the piece. Because of all the hand work involved, no two pieces are exactly the same. The etching has a 2” border of paper around the image with a beautiful, deckled edge.
Framing:
Archival framing using supreme materials. The wood moulding is custom made with a pewter-champagne finish. The mat is museum rag – 8 ply, and the mounting mat is an archival neutral grey. The etching is floated to display an elegant, deckled edge of the beautiful rag paper that the etching is printed on. The glass is high quality museum glass to greatly reduce glare and protect the art from fading. The back is sealed with a mounting wire attached and ready to hang.
