One of my personal favorite herons, the Little Blue has a subdued character when searching for prey, focused, and determined. Native Americans relate to blue herons symbolically as self-reliance and self-determination, the ability to evolve and progress. During the first year of their life cycle, their feathers are all white which has a practical function of improving their survival rate. Because they are white, more white herons and egrets accept them (Snowy Egrets and Great Egrets) in their foraging groups which give them easier access to prey. This life size heron is made with four copper plates then hand-colored with transparent watercolors.

This etching is hand-made on 4 copper plates, each plate using several inks. In addition to the Arches rag paper used for the etching, the inks and paints employed to create the etching are of the highest quality. Each etching in the edition requires precise hand-wiping and registration to attain a quality etching. Two weeks after the ink dries, each one is hand-painted to give it a rich color quality. Because of all the hand work involved, no two pieces are exactly the same. The etching has a 2” border of paper around the image with a beautiful, deckled edge.
Framing:
Archival framing using supreme materials. The wood moulding is custom made with a pewter-champagne finish. The mat is museum rag – 8 ply, and the mounting mat is an archival neutral grey. The etching is floated to display an elegant, deckled edge of the beautiful rag paper that the etching is printed on. The glass is high quality museum glass to greatly reduce glare and protect the art from fading. The back is sealed with a mounting wire attached and ready to hang.

Art will generally be shipped within 10 days unless otherwise noted. Unframed, the art is shipped flat between several layers of cardboard so when received it will lay flat and pristine. Shipping cost is determined by location.
It can be shipped framed which again is determined by location or picked up locally. The size permits easy shipping, we use Fed. Ex for our shipping. Occasionally delivery can be arranged if possible. Generally, art will be shipped within 10 days at the latest. If longer, customer will be promptly notified.
