This bird is one of the most common herons in the U.S., located in every state. You notice how the bird is confronting the viewer, an in-your-face pose.  These striking birds stand nearly 54” high with a 6’ wingspan. The Great Blue Heron that you see here is one of my largest etchings I have ever made, similar in size to the “Roseate Spoonbill in Flight”. It is life size and created with 3 large copper plates printed with 9 different inks.  After printing, each is hand-colored with transparent watercolors. This piece is nearly sold out, only a few left.

  • Technical Art Information:

    Image Size: 30” x 44”

This etching is hand-made on 3 large copper plates, each plate containing several different colors.  In addition to the Arches rag paper used for the etching, the inks and paints employed to create the etching are of the highest quality. Each etching in the edition requires close to 2 hours of labor just for the printing. Two weeks after the ink dries, another full day of hand-coloring is required to finish the piece. Because of all the hand work involved, no two pieces are exactly the same.  The etching has a 2” border of paper around the image with a beautiful, deckled edge.   The edition is nearly sold out.

  • Framing:

Archival framing using supreme materials. The wood moulding is custom made with a pewter-champagne finish.  The mat is museum rag – 8 ply, and the mounting mat is an archival neutral grey.  The etching is floated to display an elegant, deckled edge of the beautiful rag paper that the etching is printed on.  The glass is high quality museum glass to greatly reduce glare and protect the art from fading. The back is sealed with a mounting wire attached and ready to hang.

    Framing price:  850.00

    Total size with frame: 47” x 62”
