"BLACK & WHITE EVENING"

"BLACK & WHITE EVENING"

This life size Black-and-white Warbler can be found primarily in central and eastern North America but do migrate to southern states and southern countries. I see them frequently during their migration to Florida. I was fascinated by their woodpecker-like behavior in the way that they travel upside down on tree branches searching for prey. To physically assist in this behavior, they have an extra-long hind claw and heavier legs than other warblers. The rich and striking black feather patterns are a perfect subject for printmaking. This is made using a single copper plate that is hand-wiped with ink; then hand printed on fine rag paper. After it dries, the etching is entirely hand painted with transparent watercolors making each one unique.
